A Day in Fredericksburg

A few weekends ago, we all drove out to Fredericksburg, Texas to pick peaches.

We love u-pick farms, the country, fun family drives and ridiculously good peaches so we were pretty excited.

Did I mention I love peaches?

We found Marburger Orchard online. They do a really good job of updating their site frequently (like daily) to let you know what they have ready to pick and to purchase at their farm.

When we got there, we had the choice to pick peaches (two different varieties), blackberries or strawberries (or all three!).

Before they set you free to get picking, they educate you on the different varieties, how to pick the best fruit and how to not injure the tree. We chose to pick blackberries and peaches.

There’s something so wonderfully magical and centering about picking your own fruit. It was very neat to share this experience with the girls who really seemed to enjoy being out in the orchard and filling our baskets with fresh fruits.

If you’re ever out near Fredericksburg or Stonewall, Texas, I highly recommend you stop by and at least try some peaches, if not pick your own. They’re definitely worth your time and energy. And if you want to go to Marburger Farms, try to get there early to avoid the crowds and check their website beforehand so you know what to expect to be available.

There’s nothing I enjoy more than spending a fun day with my family out in the country. And eating peaches.

What’s your favorite u-pick place?

We like to pick apples in the NC mountains each fall. YUM! We live in SC peach country but the orchard where we used to pick is now a subdivision :( Our peaches have not been real sweet this year but our weather has been so odd that it must be the cause. I have a good friend here in SC who is from Fredericksburg TX! Her family still lives there.

I love Fredericksburg peaches. When I was growing up, we would visit my grandparents in Fredericksburg in the summer and eat bushels of those sweet, juicy peaches, so different from the rock hard, mealy things they sell in the grocery store.
