10+ Healthy Quinoa Recipes for Every Meal! | Healthy quinoa recipes + tips for how to cook quinoa, what to eat with quinoa, and how to make quinoa dishes delicious | A Sweet Pea Chef

When I first discovered quinoa several years back, I used it as we all probably did when we first tried it – as a healthy plain side option. I mean, quinoa replaces rice perfectly, and it actually cooks quicker than rice which makes it awesome. But, I’ve learned, quinoa can do so much more! And it has a lot of potential.

I gathered my best quinoa recipes here for you. All my quinoa recipes are healthy. And all of them are delicious and so very versatile that you can use it for all your meals.  Because quinoa can do everything – main dishes, salads, healthy sides, healthy breakfast recipes, and even desserts!

HEALTH BENEFITS OF QUINOA VS. RICE

Quinoa is a popular healthy option. As you can imagine, for a good reason. Quinoa is incredibly healthy. There are many health benefits of quinoa that shouldn’t be ignored. For example, quinoa is…

  • high in fiber and protein;
  • filled with minerals including magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, and potassium;
  • rich in B vitamins;
  • a great source of all essential amino acids.
  • gluten-free and a source of good carbs.

Let’s compare quinoa with rice:

  • rice and quinoa have pretty much the same carb content
  • quinoa contains more dietary fiber than rice
  • quinoa contains more protein than rice

Would you believe that, per cup, quinoa has more protein than yogurt and double the amount of protein in rice?

And, to make the health benefits of quinoa even more obvious, let’s compare it with pasta as well.

  • quinoa is low in calories compared to pasta – we’re talking about 120 calories per 100 g of quinoa vs. 348 calories per 100 g of pasta;
  • quinoa contains only 21 g of carbs per 100 g of quinoa while pasta contains 75 g carbs per 100 g – and we already established that quinoa carbs are amazing carbs.

HOW TO COOK QUINOA

Most of my healthy quinoa recipes require cooked quinoa. So, naturally, before discussing the quinoa dishes, we have to learn how to cook quinoa. It’s super easy! Promise!

To make quinoa…

  1. in a saucepan, combine quinoa with water and salt;
  2. cook over high heat and bring to a boil;
  3. then reduce the heat to low and cook for additional 15-20 minutes (or until the liquid is absorbed) with the lid on;
  4. fluff quinoa with a fork;
  5. use cooked quinoa in your favorite healthy quinoa recipes.

WHAT CAN I MAKE WITH QUINOA?

Ever wondered what to eat with quinoa or how to use quinoa? I have great news! You can use quinoa for pretty much anything. Yes, ANYTHING! Quinoa is so versatile that I think I need a stronger word to describe it’s versatility.

Quinoa can be used…

  • as a breakfast cereal in quinoa bowl recipes – I have one for you that’s totes amazing, BTW;
  • as a healthy substitute for rice in all your favorite recipes that involve rice;
  • as healthy stuffing for baked veggies;
  • in place of pasta in pasta dishes – quinoa noodles are also totes amazing if you don’t want to change the pasta dishes too much;
  • in desserts to make them healthy and give them an amazing crunchy texture;
  • in salads to make them filling and satisfying.

See? Quinoa can be used in so many dishes. I can actually say that any dish can be a quinoa dish if you want it to be!
