Do you know how to pronounce the word, "Compote?"
Well...I didn't for the longest time. Like until just 5 minutes ago. Sigh.
I knew how to cook a compote and what it was and that I liked it on my pancakes. But actually pronouncing it?
Not so much.
At restaurants, I would kind of mumble or slur my words so as not to give away I didn't know how to say it.
Sad, I know.
And I probably wasn't even fooling anyone. Ah well.
The thing is: I have a wonderful and easy peasy Blueberry Compote recipe I wanted to share but I felt I couldn't post the recipe unless I knew how to pronounce the word accurately.
I know. I know. You would've never even known I couldn't pronounce it if I hadn't said anything.
But I had to come clean. It had been too long!
I feel much better now, so thank you very much.
In fact, I even found a website that pronounces words for you. So if you don't know how to pronounce "compote" either, just click on over here.
No one will ever know...
**Cough** No judging. **Cough**
As for this tasty Blueberry Compote, I highly suggest you try it out this weekend for breakfast...over some pancakes, waffles, cheesecake, oatmeal or french toast. Shoot...I like it by the spoonful.
Who are we kidding here?
Check out this video to see just how crazily easy this compote is to make. And, yes, to say as well.

Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen blueberries divided
- 3 tablespoon water
- 2 ½ tablespoon honey
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½-1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice optional
Instructions
- Pour half the blueberries (1 cup) into a medium sauce pan and set aside the remaining 1 cup. Add the water, honey and cinnamon and cook over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, gently smash the blueberries against the pan using a wooden or plastic spatula. Add the remaining blueberries and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes to heat through.
- Add lemon juice, if desired, to taste. (This will make the blueberry flavor pop a little bit more but isn't necessary.)
- Serve warm.

I made this easy blueberry compote this morning for a yogurt-granola parfait, and I LOVE it!! I am so happy honey is used as a sweetener.

I use your recipe with fresh blueberries. Once it’s cooled, I store the compote in a mason jar in the fridge. My family uses the compote on ice cream, yogurt, toast, sandwiches, etc. I imagine, this would be good in a vinaigrette as well. Thanks for sharing!

I tried this the other day, and I used the compote to make a blueberry cobbler (my first cobbler ever). And my family loved it! It was so good!
Now I'm trying it with come canned peaches as well, and a little of the peach syrup. I also added a couple sprinkles of ground ginger.
Here's hoping!
Lacey Baier
That's a tasty-sounding cobbler, Tim! So is the ginger peach compote. Thanks for sharing!

Can this be frozen?
Lacey Baier
Very good question - I've never tried, but I'd imagine it could be frozen.
Adrienne
Sounds good! I am looking to swirl this into mini cheesecakes so I think I will cut out the honey so it isn't too sweet and maybe less water? I don't know I will make it as you have listed and work from there. I can't wait to try this on waffles too! I just found this site from a google search. Seems like a great site. Oh and I'm certainly going to use that site from now on when I need to know how to say a word lol. Thanks 🙂
Lacey Baier
Hi Adrienne! I'm so glad you found this site. Welcome 🙂
Your idea of swirling it into a mini cheesecake sounds amazing. Yes, I'd recommend reducing the liquid since you'll want it to be a swirl. Best of luck!
Pam Lee
Thanks!! I want my compote to be thicker, how do I achieve that?
Lacey Baier
Hi Pam! Mix the 3 tbsp. water with 1 tbsp. cornstarch before adding to the compote and then cook until thickened. That should do the trick 🙂
Jennifer
How many servings does this make? 4?
Lacey Baier
It makes approximately 4-6 depending on how much each person uses. Enjoy!
