Dustin and I have been wanting to take the girls camping for the longest time. Since it's summer now and Dustin finally had some extra time off work, we decided it was time to get started.
And then all the camping sites were sold out for the weekend we wanted to go. Bummer!
So, instead, we decided just to go for the day to get a feel for the camping area, for the activities and to learn what we'd need to bring with us (i.e. buy) for our next overnight camping adventure.
Because having a tent, some swimsuits, a bag of marshmallows, graham crackers and a chocolate bar does not equal a prepared family to camp overnight.
We chose to visit Pedernales Falls State Park because of all the activities it has to offer (tons of acres of trees and river for swimming and fishing, horseback riding, camping, hiking, and more). Plus, it is in Johnson City, which is less than 15 miles from our home.
On our way there, the girls had no idea of what we were in store for. Their idea of a "park" was a playground and of "swimming" was a pool. They've been to lakes and the ocean before, but don't remember them very well. I was just so excited to getting back outdoors and embracing a love for camping I had from my childhood.
Overall, the day was awesome. Lots of walking and hiking. Tons of fun. We made s'mores in 90 degree heat at 3:30 in the afternoon which was a first for me. Never had the chocolate melt before going on the s'mores before!
I loved it. The girls loved it. Dustin loved it. We scoped out the campsites and will definitely be back soon for an overnight stay.
Camping is so awesome. I can't wait to have the next trip!

It is nice living in the Hill Country... so many people drive many miles to come here...sometimes I forget that I am surrounded by such beauty. I enjoyed your pictures of the park--I have never been to it.
I made your fried okra recipe last night...I wanted one that was very simple, and yours was just what I was looking for. Most coatings are to heavy and thick.

Hi Nell! Thanks for saying hello. I'm glad you enjoyed the pics and the okra recipe :). I agree that most coatings are waaay too thick.
