Can Drinking Green Tea Help You Lose Weight?
Research suggests that green tea can speed up metabolism (the process that changes food into energy), aiding in weight loss.
Green tea contains catechins which have been found to significantly decrease body weight and maintain body weight after weight loss. Additionally, green tea has caffeine, and caffeine is associated with weight loss.

Luckily, the effects don't stop at weight loss! Green tea may also help with weight maintenance, which helps keep your weight steady at a certain level.

Does Green Tea Reduce Belly Fat?
A 2012 study using green tea found that "consumption of the catechin-enriched green tea beverage for 12ย weeks induced visceral fat loss in Chinese adults with a high proportion of abdominal visceral fat." The findings also noted the weight loss was not due to exercise or diet changes.
How Many Cups Of Green Tea Should I Drink In A Day?
Research shows thatย having two servingsย of green tea per day improves body composition and helps reduce fat.
How much you drink a day mainly depends onย how much caffeine you can tolerate. People who don't drink coffee or tea - or any other sources of caffeine - often have a lower tolerance for green tea.
As y'all know, caffeine has some adverse side effects.ย So if you get shaky, anxious, or can't sleep, you're gonna want to cut down on how much you're drinking.ย And always speak with your doctor before trying any new strategies for weight loss.
What else can green tea help with?
I could ramble on and on about the many virtues of green tea. So if youโre still on the fence, here are some additional benefits...
- Green tea may haveย anti-inflammatory propertiesย because the EGCG in green tea lowers inflammatory reactions.ย You can find other anti-inflammatory drinks inย this blog post.
- Green tea may help moderateย diabetes.
- Green tea may increase fat burning by stimulating thermogenesis, the process by which your body burns energy, and fat oxidation.
- The componentย epigallocatechin-3-gallateย in green tea has anti-inflammatory effects and protects cell DNA. There are also antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties in green tea which also work against inflammation.
