Back from Texas

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to share Dustin and I have returned from our trip to Texas.  Thanks so much to everyone who offered suggestions for restaurants while we were there.

Wow...lots of driving, but it was definitely nice to have all our creature comforts with us in our car and to avoid the airlines. Me and airplanes don't really mix well. At all.

We spent a little over a week in Austin...getting to know the area, eating, site-seeing, eating some more and -- surprise! -- finding our next home!  We have been interested in a change for a while and, though San Diego is a beautiful city, it just hasn't felt like "home" since we moved.

Our next home! this RECIPE

We hope Austin will provide some great food, cheaper living, different seasons,  good 'ol southern hospitality and good schools (preschool for Jordan and the University of Texas for Dustin).  Here's a picture of the front of the home.  Gotta love the cost of living in Texas.  So exciting!

I'm excited (and a bit nervous) about the change. I've been a southern California girl my whole life, so this is pretty big for me. Dustin, on the other hand, couldn't be more excited to be returning "home" to Texas.  He just loves that state.

The plan is to move in the end of November. That leaves me about 6 weeks to soak up the California sun, spend time with friends and family and visit my favorite places and restaurants.  The heat is on!

On another note...remember those Spicy Mini Crab Cakes I entered in the I am a Saucy Mama contest last September?  Well...I won second place out of 50 contestants!  Isn't that so cool?  Life is so good!  Congratulations to Carolyn Gonzalez at The Art of Random Willy-Nillyness who won 1st place for her Saucy Beef Bites, Two Ways: Hot Wing Spicy Beef Bite and Peppery Beef Bite.  You can check out all the info on the contest at Barhyte Specialty Foods if you're interested.

Well, I hope you all enjoy your Saturday!  Looks like I've got a lot of work to do!

Enjoy!

The Complete Package and I live in Houston, but our daughter, her husband and our two grandkids (ages 4 & 1) live in Buda, just south of Austin. I'm there at least once a month to visit. Some day, TCP and I may retire to Austin so we can be closer to the kids. We really love it there. Such a great city, and a great place to raise a family.

I thought you lived in Houston :). The appeal of raising a family in Austin is definitely a major appeal to us as well. Maybe we will cross paths one of these days 🙂
