If you know me, you know I speak highly of Greek yogurt! But did you know that some brands are way better than others? This post will share the healthiest Greek yogurt you can buy, alongside some fabulous recipes.
I'm as comfortable with Greek yogurt as can be. Seriously love the stuff and use it in a TON of recipes (like my Healthy Broccoli Salad with Greek Yogurt Dressing and Matcha Green Tea Frozen Yogurt).
But I've honestly seen many people settle for their regular and trusted yogurt brand because they're worried about branching out.
If you feel the same, take this as a sign from the universe that now is the time to try something new!
I believe that everyone deserves to enjoy the health benefits of Greek yogurt. It's a versatile and protein-rich dairy product that you can easily have anytime and anywhere.
Plus, you can also use it in a wide array of both sweet and savory dishes!
This post will make things easy for you by providing a list of the healthiest greek yogurt you can buy. After doing some delightful firsthand research, I've got it narrowed down to six top-quality brands.
Is Greek Yogurt Better Than Regular?
Greek yogurt has clear advantages mainly because it contains less sugar and way more protein. That's why I'm quick to recommend it to women trying to lose weight (read this post on why women need more protein to learn more).
Regular yogurt has its benefits, too, so it depends on the results you're looking to see. I love Greek yogurt because it's more filling, plus the texture is perfect for creamy smoothies. Try it in my Blueberry Muffin Protein Smoothie.
Let's take a look at the numbers...
1 cup (245 grams) | Regular | Greek |
Calories (g) | 154 | 179 |
Carbs (g) | 17 | 10 |
Sugar (g) | 17 | 9 |
Protein (g) | 13 | 24 |
Fat (g) | 4 | 5 |
Calcium (DV) | 34% | 22% |
Sodium | 7% | 4% |
Can I Lose Weight Eating Greek yogurt?
Greek yogurt is an excellent food for weight loss and is an absolute mainstay in my diet. Why? Well, it is proven to reduce hunger pangs, increase the feeling of fullness, and delay sudden cravings. More so, even than regular yogurt!
And there's more to Greek yogurt than meets the eye. It contains conjugated linoleum acid (CLA), supergroups directly linked to body fat reduction and long-term weight management.
Non-Fat or Full Fat Greek yogurt?
Choosing between non-fat and full-fat yogurt depends on your goals. If you want a standalone snack, then full-fat Greek yogurt is perfect for you.
It's a well-rounded, healthy option with the right balance of fat and protein. It's going to keep you full for a more extended period. Which usually means...less unhealthy snacking! The only time that I would recommend non-fat yogurt is if you're on a calorie deficit plan.

What To Avoid When Buying Greek Yogurt?
Before we get to the list of the healthiest greek yogurt, here are some guidelines to keep in mind before heading to your local supermarket.
Things to avoid when shopping:
- Flavored Greek Yogurt: Most flavored yogurts contain empty calories and hidden sugar (evaporated cane juice). Instead, I recommend flavoring it yourself with fresh fruits, organic honey, and even chocolate nibs! I love getting creative with my yogurt toppings.
- โFakeโ Greek Yogurt: Donโt believe everything labeled โGreek.โ Some brands just add thickening agents and protein to make it look and feel like Greek yogurt. Check the ingredients and make sure you see something like milk and live active cultures.
Which Greek yogurt Is The Healthiest?
Let's get down to business! Here's a quick list and cheat sheet you can use to choose an excellent greek yogurt that is tasty, healthy, and authentic. You can easily find these products at your grocery store or if not, they're most likely available in Whole Foods.
1. Fage Fat-Free Greek Yogurt
Iโve had my fair share of yogurts, and this is the thickest one ever! Like other greek yogurts, it contains live active cultures that help boost your gut microbiota. Itโs also packed with protein from the milk of non-GMO-fed cows. It comes in low-fat and whole milk (full fat) versions.
I've used in a dip for this Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Tots recipe and my kids love it!
2. Chobani Less Sugar Greek Yogurt
I'm sure you've seen this brand already! But if ever you had any doubts, say goodbye to them because this greek yogurt is deliciously creamy. And healthy! Made simply with cultured milk, it has more of a buttery texture. So I'll often use this as a healthy alternative to sour cream or mayo.
3. Siggiโs Strained Yogurt
If youโre a Greek yogurt connoisseur then youโll love this brand. It has a tangy flavor and is made with simple, non-GMO ingredients. No artificial sweeteners or colors either.

4. Stonyfield Organic Greek Plain 0% Fat Yogurt
Are you trying Greek yogurt for the first time? Stonyfield is for you! It's less thick and tart, so it seems more like regular yogurt. Greek all the way, this yogurt is made from pasture-raised, non-GMO Project Verified, USDA Organic, kosher and gluten-free ingredients.

5. Kite Hill Greek-Style Artisan Almond Milk Yogurt
Yep, there's a vegan option too! This Greek Yogurt is an almond-based variation that contains enough protein to keep you full! It's smooth, creamy, and tastes exactly like Greek yogurt. Soy-free, non-GMO, and free of preservatives, too!
6. Oikos Triple Zero Vanilla Greek Yogurt
Last but not least! The reason itโs called triple 0 is because it has zero fat, zero added sugar, and zero artificial sweeteners. Choose this one if you're really trying to cut down on fat.

Hi! Thanks so much for this very helpful list! I was also wondering if I could have your thoughts on a newer Greek yogurt I just recently have begun seeing in grocery stores lately? Itโs called Two Good Greek Yogurt. Itโs taste is AMAZING & I love it, but Iโm curious where it actually falls on the โhealthyโ level - since you definitely know much more than me on this topic! ๐

i absolutely have fallen in love with Two Good as well! Would love to know where it actually stands when it comes to being โhealthyโ and if it would stand aside these other brands or not!

Great article. I am with you on the full-fat benefits. I prefer full-fat yogurt because I do eat it as a snack or use it as a replacement for ice cream (by blending in frozen fruit). I wish you had listed just some full-fat brands ranked best-to-worst.
